Healthy Restaurant Choices

We all know that 85% of staying fit is what we are shoving in our mouths. Clients ask me all the time if I go out to eat or if I prep all of my meals at home. I would be bored out of my mind if I stayed in all of the time and didn’t get out to enjoy life. You can go to almost any restaurant out there and order something healthy, most every restaurant I have been too offers a protein and a vegetable dish. The challenging part is to resist the bread, carb/fat loaded dishes and dessert. I learned years ago when I was competing on a regular basis where my top 10 healthy restaurant choices in the Valley are. Here we go……….

1-Fleming’s-My go to is the BBQ Salmon, veggie side and a Fleming’s salad. You also can’t go wrong with a Filet Mignon and the above sides. Just request the waiter/waitress to not bring the bread basket or the dessert menu.

2-Pure Sushi-Like most sushi joints you can eat clean. You can do sashimi and edamame or if having a carb day, order rolls. Try and steer clear of the breaded rolls and go with just fish and rice.

3-Starbucks-When I am on the go, Sous Vide Egg Bites are a life saver. If in need of a pick me up, try the Skinny Cinnamon Dolce Latte.

4-One Stop Nutrition-Another on the go spot to tie you over. Order the Low Carb Meal replacement shake. It will keep you satisfied and out of the fast food drive thru line.

5-Paradise Bakery-They have delicious salads and it’s also a great spot to write my weekly blogs:).

6-Soul Cafe-I love going there for breakfast on the weekend. Try the Fitness Frittata! Frank the Tank likes to sit on the patio:)

7-True Food Kitchen-Pretty much anything on the menu is on my approved list of healthy choices. I am actually meeting a client there today for lunch. The challenge is not dropping into Lululemon, which is located next door:)

8-Eddie V’s-If I am going high end, I order the Ahi Tuna Filet, Sea Bass or Filet Mignon. Pair it with a salad, a steamed veggie and a baked potato. Carbs are not the devil:)

9-AJ’s-If I am in a hurry and need something quick I will grab sushi roll, stir fry or a salad. You can also order from the grill at lunch time. The salmon is delicious as well as the burger without a bun. It’s also a nice spot to sit outside and eat in this gorgeous weather.

10-Deseo-It’s located in the Westin at Kierland and it is by far my favorite restaurant in the Valley. They specialize in Ceviche. It is not cheap and it’s a once a year stop for me that I look forward too every holiday season.

As you can see, we have plenty of healthy restaurants to choose from in the Valley. If you don’t live in the Valley, I am sure you can find many choices on the menu at your favorite restaurant. The key is to resist temptation and to make smart food choices when going out to eat. You can still eat clean and have the freedom to go out to eat. I hope this helps you to get a good start on your 2019 fitness goals. If you would like a more detailed nutrition plan, please feel free to contact me today for a FREE nutrition consultation.
