Confronting Fear

We are creatures of habit and stepping out of the box is not easy.  Confronting fears are definitely not easy.  I have been confronting my fears by stepping out of my training comfort zone and training for American Ninja Warrior .  This style of training is unlike anything I have ever done and I started it in my late 30’s.  Now at 41 years young I will be trying out for season 10 of ANW.  Crazy? Maybe:)

This will be my 3rd season applying for a tryout slot.  I had the pleasure of getting chosen as a walk on in LA for season 8, but did not get the opportunity to run the course.  Everything happens for a reason and I certainly feel better prepared with another year of training under my belt.

Has the training been easy?  Heck no!  I have found myself tackling the salmon ladder with confidence but only after hundreds of attempts.  I have balanced on a bar 8 feet above the ground and walked across it to get over my fear of heights, which I had no idea I had a fear of heights.  I am sooooo close to getting up the warped wall I can taste it and I will not quit until I get there.  When I first attempted it I could only get 10 feet up the 14+ foot wall.  Now I am one short foot from reaching the top.  I know with practice and persistence that I will get there.

Throughout my athletic lifetime I have always worked hard at mastering a skill.  I earned a D1 scholarship to play field hockey (which I had no experience at until I was a freshman in high school), I earned my IFBB Pro Card in figure in 2007 and now I am a ninja in training.  I am overcoming my fears and attempting a style of training that is brand new to me.  You too can do it too!

Don’t let fear of the unknown hold you back.  Take a chance, hire a professional to help you train and make your goals a reality.  Whether you want to be the next American Ninja Warrior, compete in a physique competition, run a marathon or whatever your “Crazy” goal is.  Life is too short, you don’t want look back and regret that you never gave it a shot.

If you are looking for a Certified Fitness Trainer to get you there, contact me now for a FREE consultation at www.karenmullarkey.com.  There are no “Crazy” goals on my watch.
