Exercise Saves Lives

Exercise has been proven to prevent and lessen the effects of illnesses and diseases.  My mother is living proof of that!  She was diagnosed with Schleroderma in her early 30’s while raising 3 children and holding down the fort while dad was working.  I can only imagine her mindset when she got the news.  Schleroderma is an autoimmune disease that results in hardening of the skin and can become fatal if it hardens the internal organs.  It mainly involves the skin of the hands, face and arms.  Some of the other issues caused by the disease are difficulty swallowing, vasoconstriction in the hands especially in colder climates and bouts of major indigestion.

I give my mother so much credit for not letting these symptoms slow her down.  As long as I can remember, she always made time for her workouts.   Yes, she was all about Jazzercise back in the day and still does step aerobics today.  I am sure waking up in the morning and not feeling like moving was the case, but she would still get to her workouts in which made her feel so much better mentally and physically.  Keeping her blood pumping has been key to combating her circulatory problems.  Not only does getting a good sweat help with her symptoms, but it also helps with her mindset.  A healthy body does make a healthy mind.

I can’t thank my mom enough for all that she has done for me even on the days that I am sure she didn’t want to get out of bed.  I also can’t thank her enough for instilling in me as a young child the importance of working out.  You have to take time for you so you can be your best for your family.  She is one tough cookie and I know that exercise has been a HUGE part of her ability to manage the symptoms of this crippling disease.

Despite having an injury or illness is, do your best to make time for exercise.  If you would like guidance on how to train, contact me to set up a free consultation.
