When Stressed Get to the Gym

As a trainer, I have heard every excuse in the book why folks can’t make it to their training session. I really should start a quote book because some of them took lots of creativity. What I find baffling is that it is more important than ever to make time for your workouts when you are stressed. Working out will not only let you vent in a positive way but it also helps to lower your cortisol levels, which can cause that unwanted belly fat. When we stress our cortisol levels naturally rise. When we workout our endorphins are released, which will combat the high cortisol levels. So rather than canceling your session for a pity party, turn your frustrations into one heck of a workout. You will be surprised how strong you are when you under stress.

Back in 2012, I had several major stressors going on in my life……divorce, a stress fracture of my right foot and having to relocate my personal training business with only a 24 hour notice. It seemed like everything that could go wrong was. It was so bad that one day I walked outside to find my car gone, yup he took my only mode of transportation. “Can someone give me a ride to the Ford dealership please?” I could have let all of this hold me back, but I didn’t! I used the negative energy as fuel to drive me to stay healthy and to succeed at my business. I recall being so down and frustrated that I literally cried through workouts. Once the workout was over, I felt better and knew that I would make it through. It is true that whatever doesn’t kill you will make you stronger.

I can now look back on those times and grin. I used the gym as my sanctuary and persevered. I took a handful of negatives and turned them into intense, stress relieving workouts. My advice to you is when you feel you can’t get out of bed to go to the gym, know that once you do you will feel so much better mentally and physically. Don’t let stress be an excuse to skip your much need gym time. You owe it to your body to work it out in a positive way. If you are going through rough times, I can help you get through those workouts:) In the end, when you are soaked with sweat you will realize it’s not that bad.
